Steps 2 Summit

Big Bear Activities

Here are a few activities we've enjoyed over the years, along with a few useful links.  Also, you can check out the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce for more ideas.

WINTER ACTIVITIES:

  • There's always skiing and snowboarding at Snow Summit (did we mention you can walk to Snow Summit from the house?) or Bear Mountain.

  • Alpine Slide has a bobsled, go carts, mini-golf and sledding/snowplay in the winter.  Video games abound, as well.  This is a fun activity for the kids.

  • Sledding right behind or right in front of STEPS 2 SUMMIT.

  • Yes, you drove all the way to Big Bear to go bowling.  The Bowling Barn is actually a very nice bowling alley.

  • And after you've finished bowling, why not take in a movie

  • The Village is a nice place to take a stroll and do some shopping.

  • Have a nice, relaxing fire in the beautiful wood-burning fireplace at STEPS 2 SUMMIT.

SPRING - SUMMER - FALL ACTIVITIES:

  • There is a paved bike path that runs along Big Bear Lake.  There is a great flat section for the little kids, and a steeper area for more accomplished riders.  It's also a great place for a walk.

  • Bring your mountain bike with you on the ski lifts at Snow Summit and ride down.  If you don't bike, you can still take the ski lifts up (and back down) and enjoy the views and some hiking.

  • Alpine Slide has a bobsled, go carts, mini-golf and a water slide (summer only).

  • The Discovery Center across the lake is worth a visit, and they have presentations for the kids.  And if you're the kind of person that enjoys the Discovery Center, you might also enjoy the Big Bear Historical Museum.

  • Why not beat the summer heat by staying indoors?  We won't guarantee they're air-conditioned, but you might try bowling or seeing a movie.

  • Did you know there is a zoo in Big Bear?  And yes, they do have grizzly bears in the zoo.

  • Again, the Village is a great place to walk around for shopping and restaurants.

  • There are plenty of marinas offering boat and jet ski rentals.  There is also a parasailing company if you would like to pretend you are a kite.

  • There are fish in Big Bear Lake, just waiting to affix themselves to your fishing pole.

  • Did you know that sometimes it's nice to just sit and relax?  Why not sit on one of the three decks at STEPS 2 SUMMIT and read a book?

RESTAURANTS:

  • There are a ton in the village and spread out throughout Big Bear.

  • One of our favorites is the Hacienda, located at 41787 Big Bear Blvd.  Very close to STEPS 2 SUMMIT.  Their number is (909) 866-8667.

  • If you're going to venture over to the Village, you might try the El Jacalito (can you tell we like Mexican food?).  Their address is 535 Pine Knot Ave., and their phone number is (909) 878-2131.

  • For breakfast, we recommend the Old Country Inn, located at 41126 Big Bear Blvd.  Their phone number is (909) 866-5600.
